An improved variant of the Nikon D40, the D40x is slightly more capable, mostly due to its 10.2 megapixel CCD as opposed to the D40's 6 megapixel resolution. This model keeps the same lightweight compact design, however, and looks almost the same as its preceding family member. The display is good and the user menus are pretty easy to navigate. The auto focus is decent, although not terrific, as it occasionally focuses on the wrong subject. But the camera performs very well, producing great photos and has an excellent fps rating, not to mention a quick start-up speed and short interval between shots. Throw in a very powerful flash and a selection of four matching lenses, and what you get is a darn good digital SLR camera.
