The HP w2207 is one of many 22 inch widescreen LCD monitors which are becoming gradually more and more common. This display from HP does however have several distinctive features that set it out from the pack and may very well appeal to many users. For starters the ergonomics and design of the monitor are superb. The slim bezel is finished in an attractive glossy black giving the display a sleek modern look. The general design allows for height adjustment of 11cm, swivel control, tilt control from between -5 degrees (down) to 30 degrees and also a pivot option for a portrait position. The technical specs of the monitor claim a 5ms response time which in reality corresponds to the true gray-to-gray time of this monitor, the contrast ratio is 1:1000 and albeit the specification claims this is a 16.7m colour display indicating the use of an 8bit panel in reality this is a 6-bit TN display panel with dithering, which artificially compensates for the lower bit rate and produces a 16.2m panel, though this is no real issue. Connectivity includes DVI and D-Sub for video, 2 USB ports and a connector for the shabby built-in hidden speakers. The picture quality and performance of the screen are all around very good and with proper tuning easily done via the on screen menu the results are really very good with only very minor issues when it comes to Dark Screen and Uniformity. Overall this is one of the best choices in the mainstream 22 inch widescreen category.
