The Epson Stylus Photo R360 is a dedicated photo printer which is a rather unusual sight in today’s market which is predominated by multifunction devices. Thus, while it can be used as a regular text/mixed content printer that is not its strong point. Thus the R360 should appeal to users who mainly need a printer for photo printing and little other use. One of the distinguishable features of the R360 is a large 89mm colour LCD display located at the front of the printer which allows previewing print results and aids in photo manipulation when printing directly from a connected camera or memory cards. Under a swiveling cover beneath the display there are two memory card slots which support SD, MemoryStick, xD and CompactFlash cards. At the rear of the printer there are connectors for the power cable and the USB 2.0 cable which is the only connectivity option. In order to provide distinguishable colors and optimal photo reproduction the R360 utilizes six separate ink cartridges with light cyan and light magenta inks added to the normal CMYK set. The proclaimed print time is 30 pages per minute in both black and colour modes which is far from the reality of 3 ppm for text and 2.5 ppm for text/graphic in normal mode and about 5 ppm in draft mode, which is overall quite slow. The R360 does quite well at photo printing which is after all its niche and provides good results for the average user, sadly the average print costs are quite high and not the best available.
