As far as the controls go the interface and button layout are both simple and easy to use, Canon places all buttons on the right half of the body. A slider lets you switch between still image capture, video recording, and playback. There are also fourteen scene modes, an Auto mode and a Manual mode which includes manual control over such as exposure compensation and white balance but lacks manual exposure control. Performance wise the camera does very well as it took 0.98 second to start up and capture the first JPEG. Subsequent JPEGs took 1.48 seconds between shots with the flash turned off and 2.44 seconds with the flash enabled. Image quality was also excellent, colors were accurate and images were sharp. At ISO 80-200 the SD1000 does very well at noise reduction but beginning at ISO 400 the level of noise increases considerably and ISO800/1600 modes are nearly useless.
