The Canon Pixma MP510 is a mid-range multifunction photo-printer which should mainly appeal to those who do quite some photo printing but seek an affordable printer for their needs. The design of the MP510 is rather plain, the controls and a 1.9 inch display are located underneath a retractable lid on the right corner and albeit the display is a tad small it still suffices for print preview. The controls themselves are convenient and simple to use. The MP510 has a multi-format card reader, a PictBridge port for printing from PictBridge cameras and Bluetooth connectivity is also possible via an additional non-included dongle. Quite uniquely the MP510 also incorporates an IrDA interface for infra-red connectivity with supporting cellular phones. The MP510 employs an inexpensive four-ink system, with separate ink cartridges, three dye based colour cartridges and a pigment based black cartridge for better text prints. The addition of a dye based black cartridge would have helped produce better blacks for color prints however. Color document prints should be about 1 penny per page and 4x6 photos should be about 14p per print. Both reasonable for an inkjet printer in this price range. With several handy image enhancement features, quick editing capabilities and versatile printing options along side reasonable print times and overall solid print quality lacking only slightly in the sharpness of fine text this is quite a good all around device.
