The first of widescreen LCD monitors aimed at the masses, the 19 inch Acer AL1916W is quite satisfactory. By far its biggest advantage is its pedestrian price tag- around £100, but this does not come at the expense of performance. Response time is very fast, the screen is bright and the colors are very sharp, though slightly inconsistent at the edges of the screen. The stand is sturdy and strong, but it only adjusts on the vertical axis, and even then only a few degrees, so taller users will need to place it on a higher surface. With a respectable resolution of 1440x900, this monitor works quite well for gaming and video, and at half the price of similar-performing monitors.
